The Beauty Of This Place Is Simply Stragging

Loften is famous for its great fishing and natural attractions such as northern lights, midnight sun and small villages off the battlefield. Rowing among the islands, go fishing for your life or search for sea urchins flying in the sky.

Lofoten is in the process of getting certified as a sustainable destination and a stamp of approval for destinations that work systematically to reduce the negative impact of tourism. In addition to providing visitors with an enjoyable experience, Loften wishes to preserve nature, culture and local environment and promote social values and economic sustainability. The municipality and the travel industry work closely together to ensure the destination is a great place to live and visit.

If you are looking for an unforgettable natural experience, Lofoten will definitely not let you down. Because of the varied landscape of the area, you can go hiking, skiing, fishing, rafting in the ocean or diving. #Lofoten is also one of the most northern surfing regions in the world and one of the best places in Norway.

Lofoten has a strong connection to Viking time, and at the Lofoten Viking museum you can experience Vikings time as it really was. In a tower, archaeologists discovered the largest Viking hut found from this era. The building is 83 meters long and has been rebuilt as a living museum.

Due to its warm Gulf bay, Lofoten has a milder climate than other parts of the world with the same latitude. Between late May and mid-July, you can experience the midnight sun, while northern lights can be seen from September to mid-April.

Fishing is, and still is, to some extent, the reason people lived here and the area is known to many small fishing villages. Here, you can stay in Rorbu - an ancient hunter hut - and eat cod fish. Strong fish is often a staple of many food dishes served at local restaurants. Today, there are many options to get to and around Lofoten.

The rapidly changing weather and beautiful lighting conditions have inspired artists and attracted them to the region for decades, as evidenced by numerous art galleries and photo galleries.

Tourism just exploded in the Lofon Islands

Even a few years ago, most people Loften told them had never heard of the islands, now - thank you so much for Instagram! - They use a lot of people's radar. But Loften’s great reputation does not mean that it is (and still is not) a major tourist destination.

This means that you need to book a good stay in advance, especially if you are visiting in the summer, as it is not uncommon for all islands to be booked in a compact way. Read here for more information on how many years you will visit Luften.

For the stay, the three best places I stayed in Loften were Pig Rorbeer (my best choice, as well as the amazing Borsen Restaurant!), Eliassen Rorber in Rhein (probably the most famous place in Lofoten) and the Lofoten Lozenge extension (hit and FOUND to find Polar Twilight not included)!).

Find many Airbnb Lofoten options, such as a centrally located apartment, cabin or comfortable room in this home located just 50 meters from the ocean. If this is your first time using Airbnb, you can get a discount by registering here.

The massive influx of tourists also shocked locals, who may not have registered to stay in the photo collection. This should be taken into account when looking for a place to install a tripod, set up a tent, or park your car.

Speaking of tents, Lofoten is not the perfect place to camp. Yes, you can camp for free in Norway, but it is best to do this in the most remote areas in nature, not on the small islands that have a lot of tourists. The islands can’t handle many campsites, so it’s best to stay in lodging, or at least set up your tent here rather than camping wildly.

What am I really trying to say, showing a little interest, you know? Because according to many people I have talked to, many tourists do not.

And if you prefer to get off the beaten path, I recommend skipping Lofoten and heading north to Westerlen, or south to Helgeland beach. I have written more about a visit to Westerlen here and you can find my travel guide in Helgeland here.

Personally, I like Helgeland beaches and the islands here are very similar to the previous ones. Find great fishing stalls and attractive mountain peaks overlooking the sea, with far fewer tourists. The residents of Helgeland Beach are also very friendly, and fortunately do not disturb visitors like the locals of Lofoten.

You might also consider a visit to Twilight, which features beautiful scenery and dramatic scenery, but quickly becomes very interesting. Or for a quieter vacation, Dirsie is a beautiful island near Senya that still feels like a quiet getaway.
